How Much Does Individual Health Insurance Cost in Florida?

Real 2026 monthly ranges, what drives your price, and how to pay less.

Individual health insurance cost in Florida

In Florida, an individual health insurance plan typically runs anywhere from about $250 to $700+ per month in 2026, depending on your age, where you live, the plan type, and how high a deductible you choose. If you're self-employed and reasonably healthy, you can often land near the lower end with a private plan — and you may be able to deduct the premiums on your taxes.

What actually drives your price

Your age. Premiums rise steadily with age — a healthy 30-year-old pays far less than someone in their late 50s for the same plan.

The plan type. An HMO is cheaper monthly but keeps you in a local network; a PPO costs more but lets you see almost any doctor. A private (medically underwritten) plan can unlock nationwide PPO access at a lower premium if you're healthy.

Your deductible. A higher deductible means a lower monthly premium — but more out of pocket when you actually use care. The cheapest sticker price isn't always the cheapest plan once you add it all up.

Subsidies. On the ACA marketplace, your income decides whether you qualify for help that can dramatically lower the price. Many self-employed Floridians qualify and don't realize it.

Self-employed? Two things most people miss

First, you can usually deduct up to 100% of your health insurance premiums on your taxes — which quietly lowers your real cost. Second, you're not limited to the marketplace: a private medically underwritten plan is often the best value if you're in good health. The trick is comparing both lanes side by side. (Confirm tax specifics with your CPA.)

How to actually pay less

Match the deductible to how much care you really use, check that your doctors are in-network before you buy, and compare a private plan against the marketplace rather than assuming one is cheaper. For more ways to trim the bill, see our guide on comparing health plans the right way.
